Things are getting better....
Bali's roads seem to be clogged with empty beeping taxi's but when you need one they're hard to find, call, or they haggle rather than using the meter. It can be exasperating at times!
Here are four APP based alternatives to consider on your next trip...APP based is great because pricing is typically clear, vehicles stay off road until required, less pollution/traffic, and you don't have to deal with calling on the phone.
Kura Kura Bus - You can't miss these bright buses, they're a plush way to move large groups around multiple places in Bali. We're impressed with their extensive route, multi stop tours to Denpasar and Ubud, and WIFI on board! The drivers are professional and knowledgeable about Bali too. You can buy tickets and stop near our salon at the Wisata Tour shop on Basangkasa. More: http://kura2guide.com/
Uber Bali: There's a bit of controversy around Uber and impact to local taxis at the moment but this should be your go to when there isn't a taxi in sight or you're a bit off the beaten track. You'll be suprised how many cars are serving Uber now in Bali and best of all the pricing is clear and hassle free. Gojek is taking Indonesia and Bali by storm but it ain't for the faint. It's essentially Uber of motorbikes but they'll run errands too which makes them super useful when you get that random food craving or need supplies delivered from Denpasar and don't want to deal with traffic. Most of our clients that use them for transpo are the guys coming in and out to our barbershop upstairs. Feedback has been great! Blue Bird Taxis - The old standby and they have never disappointed. They also have an APP that few people know about so check it out. They're very fairly priced, metered, and AC'd. We just wish there were more of them, especially at the airport, in Bali.
All have Facebook pages.
There are also many great local Transpo drivers, if you have any to recommend do share or check the Bali Travel/Tourist FB pages for recommendations and contact info.
